Obituary of Marjorie "Lynn" Carter

"Rainbow" 19 November 1957 – 25 October 2021 It is with great sadness that we are announcing the passing of Marjorie "Lynn" Carter in her 64th year, on Monday October 25th 2021. Surrounded by her three children; Kelly Fleming, Lloyd Burke and Justin Carter at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital after a short but strong battle against leukaemia. She will be missed by her brothers Philip Lynch, Garfield Lynch and proceeded by Fred. She was cherished by her 5 grandchildren Gillian, Aeryn, Gwyenth, Kyll and Evan and was Auntie Lynn to many nieces and nephews. Lynn as many knew her, was a person that had no problem stepping up and supporting her family and community. After she became a parent she played a big role in Holy Cross Elementary PTA (London), shared her love for bowling and baseball by coaching her children and many others at Fairmont Lanes and Vauxall Park. A youth member of Girl Guides of Canada for many years herself she supported her daughter many hours growing up in Guiding and then behind the scenes to assist the program in prep work. Lynn eventually followed joining 1st Strathroy Scouting in 2017. Lynn was proud of her eldest son and his service to our Country starting off in the Canadian Cadets Organization and continued as an adult joining the Armed Forces. Most recently she was proud to share his accomplishment of becoming Warrant Office. Although his career in the army kept him away from her sometimes as far as Kuwait, she made sure to keep in touch and show support in ways such as sending our Troops Tim Horton’s Smile Shirts to wear while playing floor hockey. Lynn also helped out with St. John’s Anglican Church through many years of VBS, youth group and baking for the annual Yuletide market. In the last two years she would share the work that Strathroy Pride was doing in the community as often as possible believing everyone should feel welcomed in the community. As much as we heard her complain we know it was really her way to mask her real emotions. She moved to Strathroy to be closer to family and this allowed her to be present at more dance recitals, music recitals, drama performances and many sport game and track meets. She seemed to amaze her family with new interest and willingness to try new things. We are thankful that she instilled such values and compassion in us as we raise our children and share stories of our childhood where she made sure we spent time together and how she always encourage the importance of education. She followed her own message and decided at 49 she would go back and change her path by completing her grade 12 and the PSW program. She was a compassionate PSW who worked for VON London and later ParaMed both in London and Strathroy-Caradoc. She had a connection with many of those she assisted and this compassion led her to take training in both Palliative Care and Alzheimer and Dementia The last month of her life she spent many hours in the London Cancer Clinic and Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital where the staff were amazing. She did not want to be a bother to the point of calling her children to come and help her before asking the nurses. From her bedside she tried to help motivate her roommate to continue working hard on her rehab and support the nursing staff. The family will have a gravesite ceremony on Wednesday November 3rd 2021at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in London. A social gathering will follow at the Strathroy Scout House 208 Caradoc St, Strathroy from 3pm to 7pm. All covid restrictions will be followed so limited number of people at one time inside, masks must be worn, as well as proof of double vaccine and Covid screening while be done upon arrival. Please be patient with the protocols as we would like to keep our community safe.
