She was born in Plympton Twp., Lambton County, ON., the first of two children of Gertrude and Gordon Walker on October 18th, 1937. It is with heartfelt emotion and great sadness that we are sharing the passing of Janet Oates, who passed away peacefully at Summit Place February 20th at 3:00 pm. She was a strong, resilient and determined woman who raised 2 sons on her own and worked her way up to a successful career with the Ontario government, and went on to enjoy an incredible retirement since 1995. Janet moved to London in the 1950’s and worked at Simpson Sears before being married and having two boys. After the death of her husband she took in foster children while they were awaiting placement with permanent parents. Janet went back to school in 1970 to obtain her high school equivalent and courses in Business and Commerce which landed her the position of Data Entry Clerk with the Ontario Government’s Regional Assessment Office. After her retirement Janet traveled frequently on bus trips (as she didn’t like planes or boats) around Ontario, Quebec and many US states. She also loved live theatre and was a subscriber to the London Little Theatre/Grand Theatre for many years. She moved to Owen Sound in 2018 after she found travel was getting to be difficult for her. Janet was a small but mighty woman who loved her family, grandkids and great grandkids. God speed mom we hope you are dancing in heaven and free of pain!
