Obituary of Margaret E. Atchison (nee Griffiths)
Beloved wife of her late husband of 52 years, Samuel B. Atchison, Margaret passed away on May 25, 2020. Loving mother of Dale (Cam), Byron (Lori). Proud grandmother of Jessica (Graham), James, Jeffrey and Sandra. Predeceased by her parents Barbara Ellen and Harold Sydney Griffiths and by her brother Frank Anderson Griffiths. She is survived by her cousin Sheila, daughters Sally and Lucy and by many nieces and nephews in Canada, N. Ireland and Australia.
During the war years, Margaret served as a Corporal in the Canadian Red Cross, as a volunteer nursing aide in the hospitals and as an escort to war brides and their babies coming to Canada. She sang in the London Life Troop Shows directed by Don Wright entertaining servicemen.
In her career, she was a Bridal Consultant for many years later becoming Manager of the St. Regis Room at Simpson’s and Artistic Ladies Wear.
Margaret was a life time volunteer in the Colonel William Gartshore Chapter of the I.O.D.E. for over 60 years. One of her favourite pastimes was as a member of the Garden Club of London where she was a past President. Margaret’s affiliation with the World Association of Floral Arrangers enabled her to enter designs in both local shows and abroad. Her travels with the Garden Club included trips to Japan, Scotland and Italy. She was also a Design Judge for the Royal Botanical Gardens and a Horticultural Judge of Ontario. Margaret was an active member of Metropolitan Church enjoying fellowship with many groups and activities there.
A Memorial Service will be held at Metropolitan United Church, 468 Wellington Street (please use Picton St. east side entrance ), London, ON, Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with The Rev. Dr. Jeff Crittenden officiating.
