So sad to learn of the passing of my old Blake Street neighbour, Bev Keidan. Hirsh was our family doctor and, as a teenager, I babysat their children, Livia and Maurice, for many years. It was an honour to be welcomed into their home and initiated into their Jewish traditions. Bev was larger than life to me: loud, gregarious, spontaneous, funny - everything I was not. More of a big sister than an employer. She will be fondly remembered as a strong and independent women who positively shaped and influenced my life. Thank you, Bev. Shalom.

There will never be anyone else quite like Bev. From the first time I met her, I knew she was someone quite special. She was dynamic, fun, loved her family, to entertain, and how she looked, and dressed, just sparkeling. I have missed her so much these last few years, but I know now she is at peace, and with her beloved Hirsh now.

When I grew up, there were ladies from the Jewish community who may have well been Mom's sisters: Bev, Sybil, Arlene, Eve, Lillian, and Stella. Whenever I saw any of them, I got a hug and a kiss. My favourite was always Bev. (I'm pretty sure that I was her favourite too.) The story I love the best is that the night before my parents' wedding, Bev and my mom slept together. How much closer can two friends be? I'm glad that Dad and I were able to meet with Maurice and Bev a little more than a year ago at Highview on Capulet Walk. There are just some people that I wish we could turn the clock back 50 years to spend time with.
