Obituary of Prokopios "Peter" Zesimopoulos
With the love of his family at his side, our hero Prokopios (Peter) Zesimopoulos passed away peacefully on June 3rd, 2020 at London"s Victoria Hospital. Survived by the love of his life, his wife Kaliopi Zesimopoulos of almost 50 years, two sons, Dimitrios/Jim Zesimopoulos, Ioannis/John Zesimopoulos (Lidia/Lily). Adoring grandfather of Olivia and Demitri Prokopios. Loving brother of Elisavet Zesimopoulos and Kaliopi Lentis (predeceased by brother in law Nick Lentis). Brother in law to Pavlos Sfakianos. Loving uncle of Anna Karamoutzos, Katerina Ishmile, Anna Sfakianos, Cassandra Sfakianos and many more in Nisyros Greece and New York.
Prokopios was born on October 25th, 1939 in Mandraki, Nisyros - Greece to the late Dimitrios and Anna Zesimopoulos. From humble but proud beginnings, Prokopios started his life working side by side with his father as a fisherman at a young age, and set his eyes on Canada to achieve his dreams, immigrating to London Ont in 1965. After travelling back to Greece he met the love of his life Kaliopi, and they started their lives together getting married in January 1971 in London. Together, they built their dreams including proudly raising two sons and building deep roots in London and the Greek community. There is nothing in the world that gave him greater joy than his first grandchild Olivia in 2018 followed by Demitri Prokopios in 2020. They were his soul, his life and what gave him strength each day.
He lived a life dedicated to the Greek Orthodox Church and dedicated his life to Panagia Spiiliani. Prokopios was a gentle and kind soul who wore his heart on his sleeve which resulted in friendships that withstood the test of time. At his core, he held his head high, proud of what he and his wife were able to accomplish through hard work and a dedication to making the best life for his children. These foundations and values are what were most important to him to be passed on to his grandchildren.
What he loved most was traveling back home to Nisyros to spend time with his family and friends and reconnecting with his roots. Second to that was the warmth of the summer sun and his love of the outdoors. He took joy in the simple things in life which included his passion for his garden where you would find him tending to his famous tomatoes.
He will be missed by many, near and far. May your memory be eternal Prokopios.
We would like to thank the many nurses and physicians at both the London Health Sciences Centre and the Westmount Kidney Care Centre who were always quick to put a smile on our fathers face during his dialysis visits. Special thanks to Dr. Stephanie Liabotis and the care and compassion she gave our father.
Funeral services will be held at the Logan Funeral Home, 371 Dundas St., London, on Tuesday June 9th and limited to immediate family due to COVID19 restrictions. A memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate Prokopio's life. Interment in Woodland Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church would be appreciated. Online condolences can be expressed at www.loganfh.ca
