Obituary of The Right Reverend Robert Franklin Bennett
In Loving Memory of The Right Reverend Robert Franklin Bennett
May 30, 1949 – April 14, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of The Right Reverend Robert Franklin Bennett, Retired Bishop of Huron, on April 14, 2025, at his home in London, Ontario. Bishop Bob was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, pastor, and friend.
Born on May 30, 1949, Robert devoted his life to the service of the Church and the people within it. For over 50 years, he faithfully served in the Diocese of Huron – from his ordination as a deacon in 1974, to his seat as the Twelfth Bishop of Huron in 2009, a position he held until his retirement in 2016. Even in retirement, Bishop Bob remained an active and cherished leader in the Church, most recently serving as Interim Bishop-in-Charge at St. Paul’s Cathedral, London, in 2022 and 2023.
He leaves behind his beloved soulmate and wife of 53 years, Kathleen Winnifred. Together, they shared a life rooted in love, faith, and unwavering commitment. He was a proud and devoted father to his two wonderful daughters, Meghann Bennett (Jeremy Stilwell) and Jessica Bennett (Robert Daltoe), and the adoring grandfather of three beautiful granddaughters - Natalie, Mackenzie, and Riley, who were the light of his life.
Bob is predeceased by his parents, the Reverend William and Jeanne Bennett, and his brother James Michael. He is lovingly remembered by his siblings: Bill Bennett (Linda), Kerry Sharp (Rob), Sally Bennett, Neil Bennett (Mary), and dear family friend Patricia Robertson. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Bob and will miss him deeply.
Bob touched countless lives across the parishes and communities he served. His gentle wisdom, compassionate leadership, and steadfast faith have left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him.
The Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 22, at Logan Funeral Home (371 Dundas Street, London, Ontario) from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and again from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
We are grateful to our family at Metropolitan United Church (468 Wellington Street, London) for hosting the Funeral Liturgy on Wednesday, April 23, at 11:30 AM.
Donations in Bishop Bob’s memory may be made to St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church on Springbank or the Heart and Stroke Foundation at Heart and Stroke
