Obituary of Gustindinos Havaris
Peacefully, on Saturday June 28, 2025, in his 82nd year, our father Gus Havaris officially retired. Born to George and Evangelea Havaris outside of Megalopolis, Greece, Gus immigrated to Canada with his brothers and sisters in 1955. The owner of Gus's Coffee shop on Waterloo Street, he began his career in the restaurant industry. He then moved just north of the gates of Western on Richmond Street where he opened the Collegeview Restaurant providing late night pizzas, subs, and burgers to the students of UWO.
From 1979-2004 he was the proud owner of The Village Café voted "Where to Eat in Canada" where he and his wife Mary fed thousands of Londoners some of the best food this city has tasted. He and Mary together for 49 years shared 4 children George (Jen), Eva, Chris, and Vicki, whom he was very proud of. His greatest joy was the role of Pappous where his undeniable love for his grandchildren shone. Amellea, Maryam, Avery, and Alivia were the loves of his life.
Gus was always known for his incomparable work ethic, incredible perseverance and constant drive to help anyone at any time. He never slowed even when cancer challenged him, he smiled and said hold my Iced Capp and fought harder successfully defying all odds for nearly 20 years. He will always be remembered by those closest to him for his strength, loyalty, terrible
"dad" jokes, and love for his family. Thumbs up Dad, we got you!
Family and friends will be received on Thursday July 3, 2025, from 6-8pm at the Logan Funeral Home, 371 Dundas Street (between Waterloo & Colborne Street). Funeral service will be conducted on Friday July 4, 2025, at 11am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 131 Southdale Road W, to celebrate Gus's life and memory. Friends who wish to make memorial donations, please consider the Canadian Cancer Society or Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in lieu of flowers.
