Obituary of Efrosini Vouvalidis
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Efrosini Vouvalidis (nee Kapsalis). Surrounded by her family, Efrosini passed away peacefully at University Hospital on July 12th, 2025, in her 96th year.
Beloved wife of George with whom she shared 64 wonderful years. Loving mother of John Vouvalidis (Heather) and Gus Vouvalidis (Tracy). The best YiaYia to her cherished grandchildren Erik and Jennifer.
Born on April 16, 1930, in Paleopanagia, Sparta, Greece, Efrosini grew up during the depression, World War II, and the civil war in Greece. It was a difficult time for all, but Mom persevered and survived. In March of 1955, alone, with incredible courage, Efrosini boarded the ocean liner NEA HELLAS and set sail for Canada in order to better her life with the opportunities that Canada offered. First living in Windsor, Ontario and overcoming a difficult health challenge, Efrosini would eventually settle in London, Ontario. She returned to Greece in 1961 to visit family where she met George. Twenty-one days later Efrosini and George were married and then started their new life together in London. Through hard work, sacrifice, and determination, Efrosini and George purchased their forever house on Piccadilly Street.
Mom was happiest when her house was filled with family and friends, new and old. All were welcome where you were guaranteed delicious Greek cuisine, laughs, and storytelling. Mom loved her gardens and needlepoint. Efrosini’s love of her family always came first. She was happiest with her husband George, her sons, their wives, and her grandchildren whom she always doted over. Efrosini always said, “I am so lucky to have my family by my side and for the opportunity Canada gave me.” Mom, we were lucky you were our mom. We will carry your spirit with us always.
Efrosini’s passing will also be grieved by the extended Kapsalis and Vouvalidis families. Efrosini is pre-deceased by her siblings – Konstantina, Nicholas, and Sarantos.
May her memory be eternal.
The family is very grateful for the wonderful care which Efrosini received from the great team at McGarrell Long-term Care these past two years.
Family and friends are welcome for visitation on Wednesday, July 16th, 2025, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Logan Funeral Home, 371 Dundas Street (between Waterloo & Colborne St.), London.
