Dear Betsy, Jenny & Laura,
Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of Sheldon. Sheldon was intelligent, hardworking, and well respected. He lived life to it's fullest and always gave back to his community. He had many accomplishments in business and philanthropy, but most of all, he helped shape two of the strongest, most fearless and most confident women I know (Jenny & Laura!).
I know he will be deeply missed by you and by the entire community, but his legacy will carry on with his family and all the lives he touched.
May all the good memories carry you through this difficult time. Thinking about you and sending love, support and strength.

Dear Betsy, Laura, Jenny and Levi,
I am sending you all my thoughts and deepest condolences on your immense loss. A loss of the family patriarch, a loving husband, dear father and cherished grandfather and so much more. It was an honour to know Sheldon. I have fond memories of Sheldon at the cottage, driving us around on the motor boat. Our childhoods were linked from the friendship of our parents. From our spots in shule, to toasting on high holidays and everything in between, Sheldon's bright cheery eyes and warm smile always made me feel welcome. May he rest in peace and may his memory be a blessing. Sending you all love and strength.

Sheldon treated me in a polite and professional manner. He was straightforward, kind and a man of his word. I am honoured to have known him. He was a rarity in the business world. And he always made sure I had a shot of rum before my drive back to Toronto.

Dear Laura, Betsy and Jenny,
I had the privilege of working for Sheldon managing the Best Western Guildwood in Sarnia shortly after he purchased it. The reconstruction of that place was wild but Sheldon knew what he wanted and all the trades soon found out how determined he was to get it right. He taught me that no one person was too big or too important to pick up debris or waste from the property or to head into to dining room to pour coffee for the guests. He loved going to the Lamplighter on a Sunday morning and would pour coffees all morning long. He also taught me the value of hard work and to focus on those things that mattered most. Early on in my association with him, I thought he was a tough skinned, grumpy old business man from London. I soon learned that he was an outstanding, determined and truly kind hearted individual who would do anything to help you. We enjoyed many a trip to various hotel conventions across the United States and all of which were accompanied by the finest of libations. I really never knew what a quality libation was until I met Sheldon. But then I'm sure that is true of all who knew him. The 35 year business career that followed for me was based largely on the business acumen I learned from this outstanding entrepreneur. Rest in Peace Sheldon, you have earned the rest.

I had the privilege of working with Sheldon and caring for him during my time with him. He was always so friendly, playful, and kind to me.
Every time I assisted with his care, he would smile, wink, and move his ears, his own special way of saying “thank you.”
That simple, beautiful gesture always warmed my heart, brightened my day, and gave me the joy and motivation to do even more for him.
On Thursday, February 19th, when I came to care for him and he could no longer recognize me. no smile, no wink, no ear movement , I became deeply worried.
The news of his passing has truly broken my heart. I will always remember his sweetness, his playful spirit, and his smile.
Rest peacefully, Sheldon. You will always be remembered and deeply missed.

Betsy, Laura, Jenny and Levi,
Thank you for sharing Sheldon with us all. It was truly an honour to have worked for him. I will always cherish our lunchtime talks and his pocketbook with a phone number for whatever you might need. He was so much more than an employer. He was a mentor and someone who genuinely cared. I am forever grateful for the years I had working alongside him.

I am so very sorry to hear about Sheldon. He gave me opportunities to advance during my 21 years of working at the Lamplighter Inn that I will forever be grateful for. Even though it has been 5 years now since I left, I still find myself talking about him to people...he really was the smartest person I have ever known. In an industry with a famously high turnover rate, the fact that there were so many long time employees at the Lamplighter speaks volumes about Sheldon. My condolences to Betsy and the girls (and Levi, of course). He will be missed.
