Obituary of Allan Richman
May 15, 1939 – March 9, 2026
Allan Richman, beloved father, grandfather, partner, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, at the age of 86. Born in London, Ontario on May 15, 1939, Allan lived a full and determined life. He built a business, a family, and a legacy of giving back.
He transformed his father’s portfolio of properties into a diversified property management and development company. While he was a savvy businessman who enjoyed the real life game of monopoly, his idea of a good deal was one from which all parties benefitted.
Allan participated in the Jewish community locally, nationally and internationally throughout his life. He played an instrumental role in the development of the London Jewish community’s central institutions. He was also an active supporter of London community services generally.
Photography was Allan's lifelong passion - capturing a perfect moment, a landscape, or a feeling. He said that inside every image there was a story, and it was the job of the photographer to find it. For decades, he worked in darkrooms and later, on computer to tell that story. It was a pursuit that suited him: meditative, creative, and capable of capturing something true. Through his lens, the world revealed itself in ways words rarely could.
Meeting Allan you were never sure who you were going to get. He could appear intimidating or gruff, but for those who truly knew him, he was funny and charming with disarming wit, and a genuine tenderness and deepness that he didn't openly advertise. His humour could catch you off guard, and his loyalty, once gained was real.
Allan is survived by his children, Mark Richman and Beth Listerman (Phil); his grandchildren Dovid, Rochel and Rivki; his sister, Sharon Harowitz (Bob Willmot); his ex-wife, Sharon Richman and his partner, Brenda Rothenberg who brought companionship and joy to his later years. He is remembered for the life he lived, the images he made, and the people he loved in his own particular way.
Donations in his memory may be made to Jewish London UJA or the charity of your choice.
May his memory be a blessing
