Obituary of Frances May Nanni
At the remarkable and tender age of 101, Frances May Nanni (nee Grondin) passed away on March 12, 2026 with family by her side. Waiting to wrap her in a warm and loving embrace and sway softly to "Moonlight Serenade" is her dear husband of 51 years, Albert Nanni (1998). Frances is survived by her children, John Nanni (Pauline), David Nanni, Jim Nanni (Joanne), Christopher Nanni (Anne), Mary Frances Nanni, Mark Nanni (Tania), and Teresa Boere (Ed). She was also blessed to see her family grow and thrive with the addition of 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews as well.
Predeceased family members include her son Tom Nanni (2019), daughter-in-law Maureen Nanni (2015), sisters Helen Grondin, Kathleen Rivard, and Theresa Grant (Duncan), as well as in-laws Mary Bagley, Alfred Nanni (Philomena), and Bernardino Nanne (Margaret)
Frances was born and raised in Windsor, Ontario, was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy, and told many stories of her early years working at The Bell Telephone Co., at Blue Cross in Detroit, and even at the neighbourhood elementary school where she had a stint as a supply teacher, much to the chagrin of her sons, Jim and Chris, who were in her class.
Beyond raising a family, Frances had a knack for nurturing; pets that "just followed us home", flower beds, and vegetable gardens all flourished under her care. Her compassion extended to the community as well where she was a long-time active volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society, the Catholic Women's League, and the Cherryhill Activity Club. She was also a member of various church choirs.
Her hands could work magic, whether making outstanding meals and sought after desserts; sewing clothing for special occasions and repairing those for everyday; or enjoying pastimes like ceramics and needle work, Frances' skills and attention to detail set the bar high.
Frances loved to travel and explore new places. She enjoyed visiting Europe, Hawaii, California and other U.S. states, and a number of Caribbean islands, with France being her favourite destination. Despite time in these far away places, Frances never forgot where she came from, where her strength and resilience were rooted. She cherished her upbringing and learning from ancestors, and freely shared those memories with us.
A woman who loved her family immensely, was easy to please, never worried about tomorrow, and always enjoyed a good cocktail (sometimes a Manhattan, but more likely, a plain ol' rye & water), Frances was a gem and will be in our hearts forever. Cheers to you Frances and a life truly well lived! The Windsor gang in heaven has a table set, has started the party, and is excited to have you join them.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Julie Clarke for her guidance and incredible kindness and compassion. Thank you as well to the caring PSW’s and staff of Horizon Place Retirement Home these past seven years, and to the gentle and caring staff in the Parkwood Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
In the spirit of nurturing and giving, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation are appreciated.
