Ann was one of a kind and a force of nature.
Growing up she was very close to both her younger sister Linda and their mum Rosemary. This bond remained strong despite the miles between them when Ann moved to Canada in 1971. Ann always loved coming back to England and a lot of our memories are from the times she spent here with us all.
For several years the record player would make an appearance when she came to stay - stacking up all the old 45’s, with ‘When’ by the Kalin Twins being a particular favourite. There were trips to Camber Sands whatever the weather - on one memorable occasion with her three nieces sitting in the car boot on sun-lounger cushions, because there were not enough seats for them. The parcel shelf had of course been removed so they weren't in the dark!!
In 2008, Ann went on her first of many canal boat holidays with Linda and Tim. She enjoyed being outdoors all day and the physical work of operating hundreds of lock gates over the years, made all the better by a glass of wine or two in the evenings! She could often be heard mimicking the baaa of the sheep and the brrrr of the water pump and laughing about sleeping on a table!
We can also never listen to ‘Need You Now’ by Lady Antebellum without thinking of Ann.
A vodka and orange or tequila shots at 1am in the morning, forever saying “let’s go for a walk” despite complaining that her feet were ‘swollen from the plane’, an insatiable appetite for fish and chips and drinking ‘tea’ that could barely be described as such!
We won’t forget doing all those cartwheels in the garden or laughing with Linda about ‘leaving the cake out in the rain’. It was always best not to get her started on the rabbits in her garden (they eat everything apparently) and please don’t dare to mention her age!! Once she even went as far as using a biro to change the date in her passport. Lastly all Sat Navs will forever be known as Hillary after the name Ann gave one once!!
These are, of course, just some of the things that made up Ann and how we remember her.
She’ll be forever in our hearts, always weird and wonderful. We will miss you.
All our love,
Tim, Elizabeth & Sean, Anna, Rick, Charlotte & Grace, Sarah, Phil & Keira xxxxxxxxxx
