Obituary of Susan Isaacs

Isaacs (Burnett), Susan On Friday April 17th, Susan passed away peacefully at the age of 76 in her home at Seasons Retirement Community in London. Loving wife to the late Howard Isaacs, and mother to Benjamin Isaacs (Kaleigh Valois) and Rebecca (Ella) Isaacs. Proud grandmother of Cosmos and Jupiter Isaacs. Dear sister of Bill and David Burnett, and loving Aunt to Marjorie Burnett. Predeceased by her parents William Burnett and Marjorie Burkholder.

Susan was a career educator and school administrator for many years with the Thames Valley District School Board. Upon retiring from her position as principal, she immediately went back into the classroom and spent 10 more years teaching kindergarten at Matthews Hall. She worked tirelessly in the service of others, and left an imprint on all of her students and their family members. In 2013 she hiked the 600 mile Spanish Camino, a symbolic journey of walking towards retirement, and into her role as primary caregiver to her beloved husband Howard. Susan spent the next 14 years dedicated to Howard’s care, advocating for him while he lived with Alzheimer’s. It was an incredibly difficult journey, but one she handled with devotion and grace. Throughout Susan’s life she was involved in many circles. She contributed greatly to the greyhound community by volunteering with adoption groups, caring for many dogs and assisting in finding loving homes for them. She connected closely with other caregivers and the residents at McCormick home where Howard was so well cared for in his last years, and was neighbourly with her community at Hazel Lanes and her new friends at Seasons Retirement Living facility. Susan was a force. She went all-in with her career, hobbies and interests. She was kind hearted and infinitely proud of her children, students, friends and other family members and was always excited to share joyful moments with everyone she met.

Cremation has taken place and an interment of ashes will be held at Restmount Temple Israel Cemetery, Oxford St W, London, Ontario on Friday May 22nd at 3:00pm where she will be laid to rest next to Howard.

A celebration of life will be held the following day on Saturday May 23rd from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Sherwood Fox Public School, 660 Steeplechase Drive, London ON. with tribute speeches at 11:30, 1:30 and 2:30.
