Obituary of Archbishop Percival "Percy" Richard O'Driscoll
Peacefully, with the love of his life Suzanne by his side, at LHSC, University Hospital on Friday, April 17, 2026, Archbishop Percy O’Driscoll died at the age of 87.
Beloved husband and best friend of Suzanne O’Driscoll (Savignac). Loving father of Leslie (Paul) Fitzmaurice and Sean (Gaylyn) O’Driscoll. Proud grandfather of Aidan Fitzmaurice, Caleigh Fitzmaurice, Griffin O’Driscoll and Quinn O’Driscoll. Cherished son of the late Terence James O’Driscoll & the late Anne Pratt (O’Driscoll / Copley) both of Cork, S. Ireland. Dear brother of Terence (Sharon) O’Driscoll of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and of the late Herbert (Paula) O’Driscoll of Victoria, British Columbia. Forever in the hearts of many extended family and friends.
He loved and cherished Sue from the moment they met upon his arrival in Ottawa from Ireland in 1956 up to the present day. His love for the family ran deep and his happiness was that he lived for 87 years and that he and Sue lived long enough to enjoy their children and grandchildren.
Percy was the former Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Huron from 1990 to 2000 and Archbishop of Ontario from 1993 to 2000. Percy was ordained into the Anglican Church of Canada on May 19th, 1964. Since then, he served in parishes in Ottawa, Kitchener, Sarnia and London. He served on numerous committees and task forces at all levels of the Church over the years – (in Percy’s words…too many to list and of little interest to the reader). He became Tenth Bishop of Huron on September 1st, 1990. He was elected Fifteenth Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of Ontario on April 26th, 1993. He retired from both positions on October 31st, 2000. He never assumed that he would hold such senior positions in the Church-he always served happily to the best of his ability according to the gifts and skills he was given by God and because of the support of those many people who together are truly the “People of God”. Their names are in his mind and too numerous to list. God bless us all!
