Obituary of Nikolaos Christodoulou
Although we knew this day would inevitably come, we could never be truly prepared to say a final good-bye. It is with profound sorrow to announce the passing of our father, Nikolaos Christodoulou (Nik), who peacefully, and surrounded by many family members, took his final breath on Sunday, June 7 at Victoria Hospital in his 92nd year.
He was the loving husband of the late Sofia Christodoulou (née Diavolitsis) for almost 60 years and beloved father of Gina Basilone (Sergio), Toula Cassidy (Clark) and Chris Christodoulou (Crystal). He was the proud “Papou” of his 6 grandchildren, Arianna and Niki Basilone, Connor and Keira Cassidy and Sofia and Nikoletta Christodoulou. Predeceased by his siblings in Greece, his sisters Asimenia, Maria, Eleni, Marthi and his brother Lambros. Survived by his twin brother John. He will be greatly missed by his two brother-in-laws, Spiros and John Diavolitsis and his sisters-in-law Mary Diavolitsis and Kostoula Kordalis, as well as by his nieces and nephews in both Canada and in Greece and by the many friends he made when immigrating to Canada.
Nik was born in 1935, in the small village of Metohi, Euboea Greece where he worked from a very young age to help support his family. At the age of 28 he immigrated to Canada where he met the love of his life, Sofia, and married in 1964. With a great work ethic, steely determination and a positive disposition, he overcame many obstacles. For over 40 years he worked alongside his brother-in-law, John, in construction, to build a comfortable life for himself and his family.
Nik’s loyalty and devotion to his immediate family extended also to his many family members, friends and neighbours. Although a man of simple pleasures and desires, his passion for living life to its fullest is best summed up by his favourite saying: Is everybody happy?
Dad, may your memory be eternal.
