Obituary of Gertrude Postma

On Sunday surrounded by her loved ones, in the soft shadows of evening, Geertruida (Gerda) Cornelia Postma in her 87th year, passed into the arms of Jesus for rest. She was born in Holland in May of 1929. In 1951 she came to Canada to join her fiancee Albert and start a new life in a new country. She is survived by her beloved husband, Albert. They were blessed with 64 years of marriage and were a team in every way. Together they farmed in Manitoba and then Ontario. They retired in 1992 to London and were able to enjoy many years of travelling together. Missing her are her daughters and their families – Margaret & Marinus Bakker, Helen & Fred Gnuechtel, Janet & Ray Beldman. Also missing their loving Grandma are Karen, Ruth Anne, Michael, Carolyn, Krystina, Maryann, Kyle, William, Andrew, Jocelyn and Mark and their families. Beppe to 8 great-grandchildren plus one on the way. Survived by one brother, Wout, in Alberta. Predeceased by her parents, Maarten & Mijntje Groenenboom, and two brothers Klies and Jaap. Mom would help in the fields and then spend the evenings sewing, knitting or crocheting. Her hands were never quiet until arthritis overtook them and then she read voraciously. She was an avid photographer and recorded every memory of our family life. Visitation will be held at Bethel Christian Reformed Church, 716 Classic Dr. (on Gore Rd.) on Wednesday, November 18th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Interment at Baird's Cemetery, Brucefield, on Thursday, November 19 at 10:30 am with a Memorial Service at 2 pm in London Bethel Christian Reformed Church.
