Obituary of Alverna Jean Mitchell
Alverna Mitchell, 83, passed away peacefully in her home on September 3rd, 2019. Alverna was born on October 7th, 1935 to Dorothy and Larry Mitchell of London. She was loved by many including her brothers Ron Mitchell (Connie), Mike Mitchell (Carolynn) and Bob Mitchell along with her 6 nieces and nephews. Alverna and Thomas Allison raised 8 wonderful children together; Pat Shackleton (Willard), Carol Mills (Jerry), David Mitchell (Debbie), Karen Mitchell, and Dorothy Babbage. Predeceased by Jim Allison, Sue Quann and Richard Allison. She was deeply loved and admired by her 12 grandchildren; Robert Allison, Heather Powers (Terry), Donna Shackleton, Dwayne Shackleton, Mike Mills (Belinda), Laurie Dolmage (Larry), Jody Thompson (Jim), Jackie Quann, Tonya Quann, Ryan Babbage (Trenna), Brandon Babbage (Brittney) and Alicia Babbage, as well as her 14 great-grandchildren; Skyler Powers (Michelle) and Brock Powers, Cody Boudreau and Tanner Boudreau, Sarah Shackleton, Stephen Mills, Lindsay Dinney (Richard), Sarah Dolmage, Sarah Vander Vloet (Jacob), Tayton Babbage, Jaxton Babbage and Canaon Babbage, Jaden Babbage and Sylvie Babbage. Not only were we blessed with her delicious homemade chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies, iced tea and strawberry jam, we were also able to witness her love for the London Knights and the Toronto Blue Jays as she cheered them on and yelled at them time and time again. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Alverna knew her love extended way beyond her family through her years of charitable donations to the Ronald McDonald House, the Men’s Mission, Youth for Christ, the Salvation Army and the MS Society. She always said if she won the lottery most of the winnings would go to charity because that’s just who she was, always reaching her hand to anyone who needed the lift. Whether you called her Alverna, Mom, Grandma or Great Grandma, she reached so many, and we were all so fortunate to have this incredible woman be a part of our lives. The impact and memories she left behind will live on forever in all of us. Friends and family are invited to join in celebrating Alverna's life on October 5, 2019, from 1-4 pm at the Youth For Christ Cafe, 254 Adelaide St. S. Online condolences can be expressed at www.evansfh.ca and donations in Alverna’s name can be made to any of the charities she continuously supported over the years.
