Obituary of Mary Louise Shanfeld
On December 24, 2019 at Parkwood Institute, Mary Louise Shanfeld (nee Tucker), "Lou", passed away peacefully, in her 84th year of a wonderful life. Beloved wife of 50 years to Leon Shanfeld. Supportive and loving mother to Terry Watson, Martin Webb and Leah Fish, and her husband Jon. Adored Nana/ Bubby Lou to grandchildren Marie Remy, Veronique Remy, Rachel Shanfeld and Shai, Tani & Orli Fish, as well as five great grandchildren.
Louise was born in Georgetown, Ontario on January 21, 1936. She is survived by brothers Doug Tucker and his wife Mary, Leo Tucker and his wife Lynda and Paul Tucker, as well as sister Anne Freeman and brother-in-law Irv Shanfeld. Predeceased by sister Mary Jean and brother-in-law Pat Carty, brothers-in-law Arthur Freeman and Brian Shanfeld. Dear cousin of Marie Baehrle (and the late Gus). "Aunt Louise" will be remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews, their spouses and children.
The number of people who considered Lou a close friend is beyond counting. She treasured every person she ever met and became immediate friends with almost all of them! Despite living with ovarian cancer for over seven years, Lou lived her life without compromise. She personified kindness and caring, and first cared for others every day of her life. She will be missed by so many, of all ages and life stages. If you knew Lou, you were her friend. Thank you to everyone for your kind words, emails, cards, calls, visits, hugs, meals, rides and loving support during this difficult time.
The family would like to thank everyone who has taken care of Louise over the past 7+ years. Our gratitude to the doctors and nurses at the London Regional Cancer Program during Louise’s treatment. In particular, thank you to Dr. George Kim and Dr. Maria Parent for their compassionate care and support over the past several weeks and months. Thank you to the teams of wonderful nurses and providers at Victoria and Parkwood Hospital’s Palliative Care units for your care, with utmost dignity and respect.
