Obituary of Mary Evelyn Friesen (née Townshend)
Peacefully, at University Hospital, on Thursday, August 29, 2019, Mary Evelyn Friesen (née Townshend) passed away in her 89th year. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Howard Calvin Friesen. Dear sister of Betty Foster, Barbara Ullerick, Peggy Utting, Nancy Lougheed and sister-in-law of Betty Townshend, Pat Townshend, Eleanor Wilson, Muriel Friesen & Douglas (Doreen) Friesen. Predeceased by her parents Bishop William & Kathleen Townshend; brothers John (Ruth), Robert, Bill, Jim; sister Eleanor (Harold) Monture; In-laws Bob Foster, Gordon Ullerick, Luetta Sharpley, Art Wilson, Leona, Colin, Alfred & Gordon Friesen. Cherished aunt of several nieces, nephews, great-nieces & great-nephews.
Mary was respected for her many years of devoted care to the O.B. department at St. Joseph's Hospital where she assisted in the birth of twelve of her nieces & nephews which started a lifelong affection & bond for all those fortunate to call her "Auntie Mary". Mary enjoyed many summers in Bayfield enjoying her time with Howard, family and friends. She was a devoted member of the St. Paul's Cathedral Congregation.
Visitation will be held in St. Paul's Anglican Cathedral, 472 Richmond St. (at Queens), on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 from 10-11am. Funeral service will follow in St. Paul's Anglican Cathedral at 11:00 a.m. Interment in St. John's Cemetery, Arva.
