Obituary of Ivan Stephen Glickman
Ivan Stephen Glickman, 75, died November 29, 2018 at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario.
Beloved Husband, Brother, Dad, Zeideh, Uncle, Friend and Storyteller.
Steve’s departure came just shy of his 53rd wedding anniversary to Sharon (Pantel) Glickman. He also leaves behind son Stewart and his wife, Dr. Andrea Alexander and their two children Jordan and Emma; son Thomas, wife Emily Kluga and children Linden and Felix; and son Jeffrey, wife Ilana (Milgraum) and children Talia, Zev and Goldie and brothers Melvin and Richard and wife Joy.
Stephen was born in 1943 in Montreal, Quebec, to Herbert and Goldie (Bulkofstein) Glickman. He grew up in the Notre-Dame De Grace neighborhood of Montreal, and attended McGill University, earning a B Sc. in Mathematics in 1964. A chance, incorrectly dialed phone number led his being set up on a blind date with his future wife, Sharon Pantel, and they married in 1965.
Despite a successful career in programming and IT with IBM and KPMG in the 1960’s and early 1970’s, Steve’s true passion for music and his desire to interact with people drove him to sales in the Retail and Commercial Audio Industry. In 1977, he and his family of 5 resettled to London, Ontario, where Steve and business partner John Nicholson co-founded London Audio, inc., one of Southwestern Ontario’s finest high-end audio-video stores for 40+ years. In 1999, Steve transitioned to the role of Director of Business Growth and Retention for the London Economic Development Corporation, where, for 14 years, he would help the City of London attract new businesses and provide assistance and support to existing companies.
Stephen loved to make use of his leadership experience, analytical mind, entrepreneurship and love for the Arts to give back to the London Community, and served for many years as a Board Member with several organizations, including King’s University College, Junior Achievement of London, Orchestra London and The Grand Theatre.
Steve was an avid Bridge player, an amazing bargain hunter, a mediocre fisherman and golfer, and a loving husband and devoted father. He will be sorely missed.
