Obituary of Charalambos "Bob" Georgopoulos

Entering into his 90th year of Life fully Lived, Bob passed on peacefully surrounded by his Family on Easter Monday April 2, 2018. We were all so surprised given that this Greek Spartan warrior was "Teflon", never giving up and typically beating all odds. A natural winner, and a lucky one at that … as he now gets to be with his beloved Toula so they can continue their dance and eternal life together. You’ll remember "Bobby the Greek" from his 25 Year tenure operating The Brass Rail Tavern & The Pump Room on Dundas Street East next to London Furniture and Hudson’s. He retired after that, spent a year hanging out at home on Hastings Drive and making our mother Toula zingy who also had taken early retirement from Northern Telecom. A Master family plan was created and we convinced him to buy The Mug House Restaurant at the corner of Dundas St & First St … and only on the condition that it was closed on Sundays …every Sunday … like the famous Greek Song … "Never on a Sunday". It’s Family time. Grandchildren are their adrenalin. Their Life. After a great run serving the heartiest home cooked meals, enjoying new friends and happily cruising their life at the Mug House & Lou’s Lounge … Bobby then swept his Toula away on world travels, then finally settling in their Amyklais, Sparta, Lakonias, Greece. Together they created a paradise of the Patriarch’s homestead and grounds. They’d leave London Ontario for Greece in April and would return in October. This went on for years where many family memories were made and cherished to this day. All of the grandchildren visited them for weeks and relished in their roots in Sparta and the villages experiencing life that’s different from Canada. A pleasure it was. Finally they were getting allergic to our winters here and bought a place in Florida that they turned into another oasis and only a 3 hr flight from London's airport. More trips with their grandchildren. More food, gags, laughter and full of love. That’s what it was all about. Father to his sons George & Louis. Papoo to Trinati, Robert, James, Justin & Olivia and Great Grandfather to Tao, Tula and Leonidas Georgopoulos who will be One year old on the day of the funeral April 5th. He is also survived by his youngest brother Peter George Georgopoulos from Gaylord, Michigan, brother & sister-in-law, John & Vicki Fraggis plus many cousins, nephews, nieces and God Children throughout Canada, USA and Greece. Pre-Deceased by his parents George & Kondelo Georgopoulos, brothers James & Andreas and little sister Elizabeth. Being raised in the heart of the Peloponnese, his family was involved with acres of Orange Groves, Grape Vineyards and the Olive Oil business. After his stint in the Greek Air Force, Bob became a young banker until his calling to explore Canada. Landing in London Ontario, he was the luckiest man in the world because he got the privilege to meet, court and win over Toula … the most loving, inspirational and beautiful woman God has ever gifted this earth. Bob was involved with the Founding of the Greek Canadian Community of London and Vicinity on Sarnia Road. It has been one of London’s finest banquet and sport facilities where members from all walks of life have been welcome to use it and celebrate special times. His celebration of life will be held there after the funeral and burial.
