Obituary of Tina Liabotis
Peacefully, at home, after a long illness due to Aplastic Anemia, progressing to Myelodysplastic syndrome, Tina Liabotis passed away in Burlington, on December 29, 2017.
Tina was born in Tillsonburg to Stavros and Anthoula Gettas and was raised by parents who assimilated well into Canadian society. She attended Queen's University where she studied Math, Science, and English, obtaining a BA. It was there that her relationship developed with William Liabotis, with whom she was married for 57 years. After working as a social worker for the Children's Aid Society, she began teaching at Mohawk College, in the Academic Upgrading Program. She was loved by her students for her fairness, kindness, and commitment; and took the time to explain things so that each student could understand. Tina was known to her colleagues for her clear and decisive thinking. Tina was a devoted mother, daughter, yiayia and wife, who gave tremendously to her family. Among her many skills were design, flower arranging and cooking.
One of her greatest joys was as yiayia to William. They shared many laughs, snuggles, interesting conversations and wonderful vacations. She is survived by her husband William, son Peter and daughter Dr. Stephanie (Dr. Robert Goodman), her brother Deno (Sherry), and many cousins she loved deeply.
May her memory be eternal.
