Obituary of Rabbi Joel Ira Wittstein

Rabbi Joel Ira Wittstein, friend, respected leader and beloved teacher for over two decades of Temple Israel, passed away peacefully at his residence with his family and friends at his side on Thursday, January 28, 2010. Rabbi Wittstein was in his 75th year and is survived by his beloved wife, Ailene Wittstein and his children Eric Wittstein & his wife Jane of Brooklyn, New York, Ilan Wittstein & his wife Marian of Baltimore, Maryland, Eric Avner & his wife Adrienne of Cincinnati, Ohio and Jonathan Avner & his wife Sarah of Austin, Texas. He leaves behind five wonderful grandchildren Benjamin, Joshua, Jacob, Zachary and Rebekah. Funeral service will be held this Sunday, January 31, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Jewish Community Centre at 536 Huron St. Services will be led by Rabbi Daniel Gottlieb and interment will be at held Restmount Cemetery. Friends who wish may make memorial donations to Temple Israel in the name of “Camp George Summer Scholarships” or the Festival of the Sound, Perry Sound.
