Obituary of Dominic Mendes
Peacefully, at home, with his loving and devoted wife and family by his side, on Thursday, January 31, 2019, Dominic passed away at the age of 74. Loving husband of Maria (nee Coelho) for 48 years. Dear brother of Francisco (Fatima) Mendes, Rosa (Joaõ) Sousa, Maria (Joaquim) Conceiçaõ, Fernanda (the late Manuel) Cosmė and brother-in-law of Joana Mendes and Maria Emilia Mendes. Loved by his Mother-in-law Augusta (the late Manuel) Coelho, many nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren. Predeceased by his parents Ana & Jose, sister Emilia (2018) (Sebastiaõ) Ribeiro and brothers Antonio (2016) and Manuel (1979).
Dominic’s dedication to the community spanned over 50 years, including being a founding member of the Portuguese Club of London. He was very active in promoting non-profit housing, multicultural events and soccer in London and throughout Ontario. One of Dominic’s recent and most heart-warming accomplishments was being appointed as a Citizenship Judge.
The family extends a special thank you to Dominic’s dedicated team of caregivers, nurses and doctors who provided outstanding care for him over the years.
Friends will be received at the Logan Funeral Home, 371 Dundas St. (between Waterloo & Colborne St.), on Monday, February 4 from 2-4 and 7-9pm (Parish Prayers at 3pm in the Logan Chapel).
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, 10 Elm St., on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at 11:00 am with Father Nelson Cabral officiating. (Tuesday parking for the Mass is available at the Evans Funeral Home, 648 Hamilton Rd – 1 block west of Holy Cross Church). Interment in St. Peter’s Cemetery, 806 Victoria St.
