Dear Susan, Liona, Vincent, Wade, Aerith, Luke and Natsuko, You are much in our prayers. We pray for your hearts as you miss your husband, dad, and grandfather. We have fine remembrances of Michael. Conversations were stimulating and often insightful. We think back to many hours in the same Bible Study where we could count on Michael to make us think and rethink. Those times were a gift in our lives and we thank God for knowing him.

To the Turvey family: I know that there are no degrees of "unique." Having said that, Michael is "very unique." I use the present tense because I know that this tragic accident did not mean the end of Michael Turvey. I am confident that for a believer, being absent from the body means that Michael is presently with the Lord. However, he is absent from life as we know it; in particular, he is absent from his roles as husband, father, grandfather, son, sibling, friend (to many) and yes, even his role as legal counsel. He leaves a very large vacancy because of who he has been to you, the family, in particular. Part of that is due to his special kind of "uniqueness;" mostly though, it is the loss of an ongoing experience of the love you know he had in his heart for all of you. Death of course, cannot erase the memory of that love. Nonetheless, death is a thief. A precious one has been taken from you. There are no explanations; no way of dressing things up to look good; in this life, not much hope of understanding why Michael has been taken from us. There is, however, hope in the promises of God, one of which is that death has already been defeated in principle -- and that victory will be finally and totally revealed by God when Christ makes all things new. May you find in that glorious hope comfort and direction for your lives in the days and years ahead. May you all, and often, share with each other the wonderful memories of Michael you possess. You are much in our prayers.
