Obituary of Kyriakos "Charlie" Kostakos

Peacefully, at Parkwood Hospital on Monday, May 6, 2013 in his 87th year, Kyriakos "Charlie" Kostakos. Loved husband of Kyriakoula "Koula" Kostakos for over 55 year. Charlie was born in Pakia, Sparta, Greece in 1926. Dear father John and his wife Georgia of Hamilton, and Chris and his wife Tina of London. Proud "Papou" to Sophie and Irene who were his pride and joy, and to Sonia, Kyriakos, Anthony, and their mother Anna Pinelli. Dear brother of George (Diamando) of Greece, Ekaterini Manolakos (Demetri) of Montreal, Peter (Margarita) of Sudbury, Vasiliki Bouth and Eleni Kostakos of Florida, the late Demetri (Pepina) and the late Peter Koikas (Joanna) of Scarborough and brother-in-law of Fofo (Steve) Cotitsas of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Charlie immigrated to Montreal, Canada in 1955, he married the love of his life Koula, and had his first son John. Later he moved to Sudbury where he opened his first restaurant (1960-1966). During that time his second son Chris was born. He then decided to move with his young family and to set down roots in London, Ontario. Here he opened his second restaurant "The Coral" from 1966-1972. Later he owned and operated the B&B Snack Bar from 1980 until he retired in 1989. During his retirement he vacationed with Koula to Greece every summer until 2005. Later he enjoyed going on day trips for coffee to Exeter, Port Huron and Niagara Falls. He enjoyed having afternoon coffee with his friends. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews and especially by his coffee friends. Heartfelt thank you to Nick, Gus and Stella for your help and support during our father’s illness, and to the doctors and nurses at LHSC and Parkwood Hospital. Friends will be received at the Logan Funeral Home, 371 Dundas St. (between Waterloo and Colborne St.) on Thursday from 6 – 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 133 Southdale Rd. W., on Friday, May 10, 2013 at 1 p.m. Interment Woodland Cemetery. Prayers will be held in the chapel on Thursday evening at 8 p.m. Those who wish to make a memorial donation to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund. A tree will be planted as a living memorial to Charlie Kostakos. Services: Service Date Friday, May 10, 2013
