To the family of the late Dr. Thomas McLarty ... I have just today become aware of Dr. McLarty's passing. Our sincerest sympathies. Dr. McLarty was a great surgeon, teacher, mentor and friend. He taught me much, not only about medicine and surgery, but also about life as a physician and our responsibilities to patients and families. He will be missed by all. May his soul rest in Peace.

Dear McLarty Family, Please accept my deepest sympathy for the passing of your father. He was always so kind throughout my childhood and as an adult, as we chatted often after church. Both your parents were so warm and welcoming. Your dad always asked about my daughter, Jade, and showed interest in her well-being. He will be missed. I wish you comfort and love. May your beloved memories help to bring you peace. God's blessings. Helen

We got to know Tom through my friendship with Mary which began in an exercise class. We enjoyed their company and noted, one night downtown, while walking back to the car after dinner, Tom was prepared when stopped by someone asking for money. He said that he like to keep a few loonies and toonies in his pocket for just those occasions. He and she were fun and interesting to be with as they were both so open, forthright and playful and at the same time gently dignified. We only knew them in their later years, but were always charmed and challenged by their wit, wisdom and heart. We miss them both. Antonios and Ellen Mamandras

To Tom's Family - Please accept my deepest sympathy at this time of sadness. The world has lost a very special person! Tom was a gentle man and a gentleman in every way. I have so many fond and happy memories of Mary with the Earle Terry Singers and of Tom who was always there to support us. He was an incredibly gifted surgeon; he twice operated on me with great success. Tom was happiest when with his family and at his farm. What delightful stories he shared! My caring thoughts are with you. Norma (Dunn) Clare - and Bill, too

It was on the shores of Lake Huron at our family cottage that my family, namely Sandra, Eric and I, befriended the McLarty children and kept friendships for life. Dr.McLarty was there every summer of my 46 years at the Beach. From the time we were small he greeted us with a warm smile in the cottage or on the sand. He treated us when we had poison ivy or an unknown fever. He was humble and clever, witty and kind. His laughter was so recognizable that as I grew older I would look forward to seeing him at the Band on a Saturday night in August just to hear him giggle. He walked hand in hand with Mary down to Point Clark nearly every day and we always celebrated their anniversary with cake in the cottage. He worked at the farm during his "vacation" and we always knew there was just something so special and unique about him. His farm hands, that tended to his garden and machinery were the same hands that healed people. All of his children are just like he was, the most genuine, interesting and warm people that I will ever meet. Thinking of you all McLarty Family...and our special days at the Beach.

As one of Dr. McLarty's thousands of patients, I just wanted to send my sincere sympathies to his family. Dr. McLarty saved my life 28 years ago with back to back surgeries and I will never forget his kindness, his calming manner and of course his skills that did put me on the road to health. May he rest in peace after a life well lived.

What a wonderful Dr. Dr McLarty was my Dr and my Mother's during difficult times. ( Dr Wall was his resident.) His kindness was never forgotten. I went to his office to get a note to return to work after an appendectomy. He looked at me and said , "Come in here." Next thing I knew I was on my way back to the hospital. Only took one look to know. :)

To all of Tom's family.....I had the privilege to train as a student and resident in surgery with Dr McLarty, and then had the good fortune to work with him as my colleague in Colorectal Surgery in London. His love of surgery and his skill and commitment to his patients had a profound influence on me. His passion for farming meshed with my farming background. When I visited him 2 weeks ago in palliative care, he immediately remembered giving me lessons in chain saw safety on the farm! At the end of our visit, he thanked me for coming , and I helped my old professor get into bed. I will always remember his honesty, his simple direct approach, and his gentlemanly, professional personality. God Bless you, Tom!

Sincerest condolences to Tom's family and friends. I was truly saddened to learn of Tom's passing. Tom was a role model and mentor to many surgical residents. There were many aspects of Tom's career and persona that we as trainees aspired to. He always had time for us regardless of his busy schedule. His enthusiasm and dedication to the profession of surgery was greatly admired. He approached his patients with compassion and in the operating room, with tenacity. He was a memorable character and I have fond memories of our interactions. Dr. McLarty's legacy within the Division of General Surgery at UWO persists today and into the future as part of the fabric of our clinical and training programs. Rest in Peace.

I remember with incredible fondness and profound respect my training years with Dr. Mclarty. I recall suggesting a different approach during a procedure and his reply was "Gopal we could do that , but it's like crossing the 401 with your eyes closed, you can get away with it but it's still is never a good idea
