Obituary of Dimitroula (Toula) Georgopoulos
Dimitroula (Toula) Georgopoulos passed away peacefully and with dignity in London, Canada Sunday April 5th, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. She died upon sunrise, at home in the arms of her family, just like she wanted. Her final farewells reached all of those that she loved and loved her. The list is long and there are no regrets. Toula was born to Louis & Stavroula Fraggis (deceased) on November 21st 1936 in Kaminia, Sparta, Greece and was raised cultivating land & herding sheep with her family. They immigrated to Canada in 1954 and were part of the first 30 Greek families to live in London. Our Patriarch Papoo Louis was attracted by the trees in our Forest City and we thank him for making this our home. Anything Toula touched would flourish and her exotic gardens in London, Greece & Florida are a testament to her nurturing and loving ways. Her affectionate doting care for family had no limit as she devoted her life adoring her sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her husband Bob of 54 years. One in 14 Million are the stats in winning a lottery. To have Toula in our lives was one in a Trillion Trillion. Words cannot grasp the unconditional love that she gave to us. As children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren – we are the luckiest kids alive to have had this wonderful woman as our teacher, leader and Angel on earth. Her humble beginnings, her magnetic smile and her optimism has been graciously and thankfully conveyed to all those that she touched in her life, especially her close loved ones. How fortunate we are to have been loved, and to love this gentle, compassionate, tender, generous, beautiful & stoic Matriarch. Her presence and positive attitude energized anyone within a 10 block radius & you could feel her love. Those at Northern Telecom, The Brass Rail Tavern and finally The Mug House Restaurant will remember Toula’s vigor, liveliness and playful personality. Deeply missing her is husband Bob, sons Louis and George Georgopoulos all of London, Canada. So sad are her grandchildren Trinati, Robert, James, Justin and Olivia Georgopoulos who loved Yayaa with all of their hearts. Great Grandson Tao keeps asking for her and wonders why he can’t smell her cooking. Grieving is her brother John Fraggis and Vicky, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, here in London and throughout the world. If you were fortunate enough to sample her Greek Cooking, you will recall your taste buds dancing the Zorba. Her scrumptious delicacies and mouth- watering fare were always made with love – and you better have a third helping, or else. Toula’s magnificent natural beauty was compared to Sophia Loren and Gina Lollobridgida, with unpretentious modesty. She was a Giver, and her discreet inconspicuous kind gestures were low key. She gave of her time, funds and kindheartedness to family, friends and charity here and in her native Greece. Toula was the surprise queen of all time & the smiles & joy her actions generated was her fuel. She sacrificed her wants and needs for her sons and their loved ones. A remarkable lady, the best this earth has ever graced. A special one of a kind lady. We invite you to open your hearts and allow our Mother to bless you all with her warm love as she smiles from above & guides us to be good to others, as she exemplified her whole life here. We miss her so, love her dearly & are happy knowing that she is in a better place, free of pain and full of God’s love. Her presence continues to surround us all and we can feel her. Visitation will be held at Logan Funeral Home 371 Dundas St., (between Waterloo & Colborne St.) on Wednesday April 8th, 2009 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. & from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with Father Elias Drossos conducting prayers in the chapel at 8:30 p.m. Toula’s funeral will take place on Thursday April 9th, 2009 at 1 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 133 Southdale Rd. W. She will be buried close to her parents at Woodland Cemetery on Springbank Drive. Afterwards a celebration of her life and eulogies will be held at the Greek Canadian Club on Sarnia Road near Hyde Park where she was a life long member. Donations may be made to the Greek Orthodox Community Holy Trinity Church, 133 Southdale Road West London, ON N6J 2J2 (519) 438-7951. A Maple Tree will be planted in Springbank Park in memory of Toula Georgopoulos courtesy of Logan Funeral Home.
