Mr. Fred Kingsmill touched my life in such a profound way. He called me one day after reading a story about my daughter Kristina DAndrea. He asked me to come into the store, where I was to meet him upstairs. He had a wheelchair ready for my daughter and airline and hotel room all paid for so I could take my daughter to Minnesota in regards to meeting a Doctor for the chance of my daughter to have a bone marrow transplant for her very rare genetic disease. I discovered years later that a very dear friend, Mr.Joe Scott was also involved with this endeavour with Mr.Fred Kingsmill. My daughter passed away May 22,1997 and my son Paul DAndrea passed away three years ago. My sincere condolences to your family and may your beautiful memories help you all through this very difficult time. Sincerely Dorothy Doucette

Mr.Kingsmill's kind deeds extended far beyond Canadian borders. I had the pleasure to meet Mr. Kingsmill 20 years ago at the time when my father was gravely ill in former Yugoslavia. He was very kind to both of my parents. Whenever I visited the store he talked to me and wanted to know how my family was doing overseas. He was always cheerful and wanted to help others. I don't believe that I will ever meet another person like Mr. Kingsmill. He will always be remembered for his kindness and generosity. He was a lovely compassionate person who will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences to Mrs. Kingsmill and to all family members.

Anne and family, I was a friend of Annes in the 70s. We worked together mostly on the second floor. Being young and full of energy we would often play jokes on one another. Your father caught us on a couple of occasions and being the kind gentle man of few words. He would give us a look and back we would go to our stations. I know he will be missed by many. He was an unforgettable man. It was a pleasure to work with you all. My thoughts are with you at this time. Sincerely Janet

On a cold night in November 2005, my husband & I attended your Holiday Gala to purchase a plaid nightgown that my Mother looked for every Christmas. We had to park in a lot across from the courthouse. When we returned to our car, we recognized Mr. Fred Kingsmill approaching us. He apologized profusely for us having to park so far away and extended his appreciation for us coming to the event and our purchase. Years later, we have never forgotten the man who left the glittering lights and music to patrol a cold parking lot, concerned for his customers inconvenience. RIP Mr. Kingsmill, your customer service will be recalled forever.

My sincere condolences to Claire and family. My father (T.Ray Powell) always described Fred as a prince of a gentleman and I heartily agree. He was always there for me when I needed assistance with my parents in the last few years of their lives. Fred would take me to the basement of the store and point out what we may need to take home as aides for living. On two separate occasions he had lift accessible lazy boy chairs delivered where I needed them. I will never forget his kindness...nor his quiet, sharp wit. Fred and his father were the characters of many stories my Dad shared with me in his last years. It was only when I returned his Potentates Jewels that I read the inscription on the back that read George Frederick Kingsmill and discovered Fred Senior had instructed those jewels to be passed on to Dad for his 1974 year. So many stories of an unforgettable generation of entrepreneurial, generous, genial men. Travel well Fred.

Fred and I are first cousins both born in 1928. Our parents attended OAC, married and returned to the farm in London and, in my case St George. I loved visiting the Kingsmills, we had Holsteins, they had Ayrshires(lots of arguments). They were Tory, we were grits, lots of arguments but the greatest respect, love and admiration for the London cousins, the great store and the loving hospitality. Fred got my family email every day and replied occasionally by letter with a firm hand and generous spirit. He was a great man and a great example to our family and to London

Mr. King was truly a great man. When I was only 16 years old and working at Kingsmills he taught me the value of giving back. This was my first experience at volunteering and helping people who really needed help. We delivered hospital beds to those in need. Truly a role model and those life lessons have stayed with me for the past 37 years and have led me to continue to volunteer in the community. He will be truly missed. Supt. Bill Merrylees, London Police Service.

I would like to Express my condolances to the family. My father was a friend of Fred. He was Jack Marshall of Anderson's the Big Store, a business in the two previous market buildings. The last time I saw Fred was at my father's ninetieth birthday party at Fiddlers Green. My father was also a shriner and a past potentate. Fred will be a great loss to our city. It was an honour to have known him.
