Obituary of Yehuda Farhi
On June 22, 2014, p eacefully at LHSC, surrounded by the love of his family, Yehuda Farhi, in his 84 th year.
Born in the land of Israel June 4, 1931, he joined the Haganah at the age of 14 and by 17 was an officer in the newly-established Israeli Defence Forces. He served as a communications aide to David Ben Gurion, later the first Prime Minister of Israel.
He went on to found one of Israel’s’ first insurance agencies and was the first to offer life insurance to members of the Israeli Defence Forces. He continued a lifelong commitment to building a new nation and never lost his faith in a lasting peace in the Middle East.
After his son Shmuel emigrated to Canada in 1986, Yehuda was a frequent visitor to London, becoming a Canadian citizen in 2008.
He enjoyed making friends and sharing stories with people from around the world, and particularly loved watching his grandsons play hockey, and spending time at the family cottage on the shores of Lake Huron.
He is survived by his sisters Rachel and Sara and brother Asher. Predeceased by his sister Israela. Also lovingly remembered by his son Shmuel (Nicole Laidler), daughters Mira Ashkenazi and Merav (Yossi) Dvora-Farhi and grandchildren Ben, Shehnee and Natan Farhi and Edan, Nofar (Ziv Wasbrout) and Niv Ashkenazi and Noam and Nadav Dvora-Farhi, and greatgrandchildren Shaked and Geffen Wasbrout.
Special thanks to Drs. Denstedt, Sexton, Sanatani, Palma, Hamilton, Koivu, Hutnik, and Bendheim and the wonderful nurses and staff at the London Regional Cancer Centre, St. Joseph’s Hospital, and particularly the palliative care nurses at LHSC.
Services will be held at Or Shalom Synagogue, 534 Huron Street, Tuesday, June 24 at 2 PM, with Rabbi Catherine Clark officiating. Interment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the London Community Hebrew Day School.
