Obituary of Gordon Edgar Ullerick

Gordon Edgar Ullerick, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 12, 2013 with his wife Barbara by his side. Gordon and his beloved wife, Barbara Ann (Townshend) of 57 years have a tremendous everlasting love and commitment to each other. It is an amazing love affair to observe and awesome partnership that made a difference to many. A successful man does not make a successful father but a successful father makes a successful man. As a father, Gordon always took care and supported his children. Tracey Kinigakis (Panos), Layne (Cheryl), Dana Fitzsimmons (Gerry) and Darrin (Carolyn) are blessed to have his loving arms around them. His proudest role in life was as a loud Grandpa who loved to sing Happy Birthday to all of his cherished grandchildren. Spencer, Marny, Christopher, Tyler, Michael, Kaitlyn, Connor, Devin and Jake are Grandpa’s "bestest kiddies of all". He was thrilled when Lia (Billy), Anna (Patrick) and Harrison joined his family. Gordon is lovingly remembered by his brother Orval (Marlene) and his brother-in-law, Bob Townshend (Pat) and his sisters-in-law; Betty Townshend, Betty Foster, Mary Friesen, Peggy Utting and Nancy Lougheed. He will be missed by all of his nieces and nephews who as children were intimidated by their loud uncle but as adults came to love and admire his devotion to family. In Gordon’s career as a teacher and High School Principal his concern was to ensure the best education for all his "kiddies". His role as an educator at Woodstock Collegiate, Central, Weable, Lucas and Clarke Road and finally at Oakridge was to make a difference in the life of his students. Gordon’s favourite pastime was hitting the ball at Highland Golf Course with family and friends. He had a passion for always improving his game with a new swing which was practiced for hours in the living room. There was always a new golf course to search out or tweaking the new swing that just might make for the perfect game. Gordon had great faith and belief that provided him strength and will now guide him home. From one of his favourites songs, "There's bound to be rough waters, And I know I'll take some falls, With the good Lord as my Captain, I can make it through them all, And I will sail my vessel, 'Til the river runs dry." Friends will be received on Thursday, August 15, 2013 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at LOGAN FUNERAL HOME, 371 Dundas Street (between Waterloo and Colborne).
