Obituary of Simon Raymond Cormier
Simon Raymond Cormier, 93, of London, Ontario died at Parkwood Hospital on Tuesday, March 26, 2013. Born July 10, 1919 in Terre Noire, Cape Breton, he was the last of seventeen children born to the late Joseph E. and Marie Helen (Leblanc) Cormier.
Simon was a career soldier and retired from the Cdn. Armed Forces as a S/Sgt. He served overseas in WW II, Korea and the Congo. He was a long serving member of the Royal Canadian Legion where he often pursued his passion for playing cribbage.
Simon was a devoted and loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife Theresa and his children Allan (Orlanda), Mary Helen (Richard) and Tom (Cathy). Simon will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Trevor (Jeanine), Tricia, Daniel, Sara (Michael), Adam, Laura, Molly as well as his great grandchildren Joshua and Lailah. Simon also leaves behind his many nieces and nephews and their families.
Friends will be received at Logan Funeral Home, 371 Dundas Street (between Waterloo and Colbourne St.) on Monday, April 1, 2013 from 2 – 5 p.m. A short memorial service will follow in the chapel at 5 p.m. with Rev. Darrell Shaule officiating. Reception to follow at the funeral home. As per his wishes, Simon will be cremated and interment will be at the parish cemetery of St. Joseph Church in Cape Breton at a later date.
A very special thank you to all the nurses and staff at Parkwood 3rd Fl. Kent Veterans Wing. Their compassion and dedication to all veterans in their care will always be remembered by our family. God bless you all.
