Obituary of Ernest Hugh Pollock

Peacefully, with his family by his side, at Victoria Hospitalon Tuesday, March 28, 2017, Hugh Pollock of London in his 95 th year. Hugh was born in London, Ontario but was brought up on his father’s farm near Varna. He later settled in London after serving with 420 City of London Squadron, Tholthorpe, Yorkshire where he completed 36 operations over Europe as a Wireless Air Gunner (WAG). He was promoted to Flying Officer and became an instructor at Topcliffe after completing a Signals Leaders course in St. Athan, South Wales. He received an honourable discharge in 1946, when he married his first wife Madeline nee McLay. He became a member of the London Amateur Radio Club (VE3EWI), and the London Flying Club of Canada. He obtained his private pilot license in 1950 and enjoyed many hours as a pilot-in-command of various aircraft, which he owned and operated, beginning with a war surplus Tiger Moth. He is survived by his present wife Janet and three sons: David (Sherry), Richard and Steven; also five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Hugh will be sadly missed by many family members and friends. Friends will be received at Logan Funeral Home, 371 Dundas St. (between Waterloo & Colborne St.) on Sunday from 2 – 4 p. and 7 – 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Monday, April 3, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Bayfield Cemetery to follow.
