Obituary of George Nikolakakos
Born in the village of Polovitsa in Laconia, Greece
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, of George Nikolakakos of London, Ontario, in his 78 th year. Beloved husband of the late Stamatiki Toula (Lascaris).Beloved father of the late Maria Nikas and her husband Leo Nikas, Stella Nikolakakos and her husband Dionysios Kambas, Dimitri Lascaris and his wife Farida Fareh Lascaris, and Anastasia (Nikolakakos) Sozou and her husband Nicos Sozos.Beloved grandfather of Nikki, Kostas, George, Toula, Katerina, Maria, Aristotle, Jason, Thalia, Achille, Lena, Alexandros, Romanos, Christaleni, Rafael, and great grandfather of Gabriel. Beloved brother of Georgina Kostantakos and her late husband Sam, John Nikolakakos and his wife Helen, Alex Nikolakakos and his wife Daniella, Heidi (Nikolakakos) Vamvalis and her husband Bill. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Our beloved George arrived in Canada from Greece in 1957 with little to his name, no high school education, and a very limited understanding of the English language,but he was animated by a profound desire to educate himself. By the time of his death, he had earned five degrees from Canadian universities. His immense passion for knowledge and learning inspired us all. He will forever be missed. Friends and family will be received at Logan Funeral Home, 371 Dundas St (between Waterloo and Colborne) on Tuesday, May 19 from 6-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 131 Southdale Road Road West on Wednesday, May 20 at 1 p.m., with Father Elias Drossos officiating. Internment Woodland Cemetery. Prayers will be held at 8:00pm.Online condolences www.loganfh.ca. George and his family have been deeply saddened by the humanitarian crisis that has resulted in Greece from the demands of Greece’s creditors. Therefore, in lieu of sending flowers, please make whatever donation you can to The Smile of the Child, a charitable organization in Greece whose mission is to aid impoverished children.
