Obituary of Gert "Mike" Micheelsen

Peacefully, after a heroic battle following emergency surgery, Gert (Mike) Micheelsen passed away January 9, 2013 at London Health Sciences Centre – Victoria. Beloved father, husband, brother and uncle, he is survived by wife of 49 years, Edna (Gosnell) Micheelsen, daughters Karin Micheelsen and Lisa Micheelsen, brother Thor Micheelsen (and wife Elaine), sister Randi Wade (and husband Halvard) and numerous nieces and nephews and predeceased by his parents Karl and Erna Micheelsen and brothers Henri and Benny Micheelsen. He was 81 years old and enjoyed a vibrant life with avid interests in nature, wildlife conservation, photography, bird and butterfly watching. Gert immigrated to Canada with his parents and siblings in 1954 from Denmark, settling in London. For many years, Gert worked in the construction industry and was proud to count many London edifices amongst projects he worked on. When Ford opened the Talbotville Assembly Plant, Gert was hired in plant maintenance where he worked until his retirement in 1994. Many thanks to the staff at Victoria Hospital Critical Care Unit for their compassionate and excellent care. Visitation will take place, Sunday, January 13, 2013 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and the funeral service will take place on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 11:00am at Logan Funeral Home 371 Dundas Street, London Ontario, (In between Colborne and Waterloo) both open to all those wishing to pay respects. A private burial for family and close friends will be held following the funeral service at Union United Cemetery, Union. Flowers or donations to the Canadian Kidney Association or World Wildlife Fund accepted with much appreciation. Services: Service Date Monday, January 14, 2013
