Obituary of Hari Giakoumis

Hari (Hariklia, nee Bobetsi) Giakoumis passed away peacefully in her home October 26, 2015, with all of her family around her, at 76 years of age. Hari was predeceased by her husband Joseph Giakoumis (1971). She will always be fiercely loved, and is already missed, by her daughters Josie Medero of London, Ontario, and Hasmi Ferguson of Banff, Alberta. Hari stayed strong despite life’s challenges and raised two daughters on her own when she lost her husband a few years after immigrating to Canada. She never stopped being a mother to all who came through her door and worked tirelessly to make sure that everyone felt like family and left well fed with her homemade Greek food. Her granddaughter Samantha Medero and her grandson Conner Ferguson think their grandmother was the best grandma ever and they will miss her jokes, caring, gardening, Greek cooking and sharing their summer vacations with her, especially going to Great Wolf Lodge. Hari will be missed by her sister Athena Denezis (Peter) of London, Ontario, and their children Bill (Paula), Christina (George) Hrisikos and her grand-nieces and nephews Peter, Nicole, Alex, Athena, Niko, and also by her sister Dina Kostakos (Dimitri) of Koutsopodi Greece and her nieces Anastasia and Basiliki. Friends will be received at the Logan Funeral Home, 371 Dundas St. (between Waterloo and Colborne St.) on Wednesday from 7 – 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 131 Southdale Road W. on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with Father Elias Drossos officiating. Interment Woodland Cemetery. Prayers will be held in the chapel at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Friends who wish may make memorial donations to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
