I was glad that John gave the option of speaking at Martha's memorial serviceyesterday. If I'd known ahead of time, I might have said more! As I indicated at the service, knowing Martha was a blessing! She was a helper of many (including my own daughter -- as Janine shared in another condolence note). She and Wendy could no doubt have shared similar experiences. In church circles, we speak about "spiritual gifts" that God entrusts to his followers, and Martha certainly demonstrated gifts of helping, encouragement and generosity. She was truly a "salt of the earth" person! May you all be comforted by happy memories of your own from your relationship with her!

Martha was part of our Village Green church community for many years. She was a woman who quietly blessed many with her acts of kindness - meals made when people needed them, baby blankets she created for new babies, baking brought for different events, etc. Personally, we remember her bringing us a hot meal when a member of our family was injured in an accident and then offered to come by to pick up our laundry if we ever needed her to do it. We learned a lot about serving others from her - a beautiful example of a life lived for her Lord.

I went to Village Green Church in London as a child and Martha was always a "grandmother" figure to me. She mentored me as a person and taught me a great deal about sewing, and needle crafts at her apartment. I always cherished the times I got to spend with her and I know some of who I am at 40 is because of the love and time she put into me as a kid. I know she will get a "Well Done" when she meets Jesus. Many blessings to you all as you grieve her loss. Janine
