Obituary
Obituary of James Arthur "Jim" Aitken
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of James (Jim) Arthur Aitken, age 71, at University Hospital, London, on Sunday, July 28th.
Jim was born October 4th, 1941 to Donald and Lillian (Rutter) Aitken.
Survived by his true love and best friend of almost 50 years, Barbara (Heath). Loving father of Shelley and her husband Pompeo Frijia of St. Thomas and Michael and his wife Tricia of Stratford. Cherished grandfather of Nathan, Sheldon, Abbey and Aimee and beloved dog Keeko. Survived by brother Philip and his wife Marg, sisters Bonnie and Charlie McEachern, Sheila and Bill Wilson, Linda and Jim Paling, Dolores and Gerry Smith. Predeceased by brothers Donald and Stanley and sister Sharon Ryerse. Loved and missed by many nieces and nephews.
Jim was a former bank manager of 30 years and owned his own accounting business until semi-retirement when he went to work part time as a controller for JNB Heavy Haul. Jim was a 30 year member and former District Deputy Grand Master with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows belonging to the Forest City Order. Jim was considered the "Go to Guy" whenever and wherever he was needed. Jim loved people and was admired and respected by all who knew him. Jim’s family meant the world to him and to his family he was their "Rock".
Thank you to the doctors and supportive nurses at University Hospital I.C.U. for their kind and tender care of Jim. We would also like to thank Dr. Meredith for watching over him. As someone who was always giving to others, Jim’s last gift was the donation of his organs, his liver saving the life of a 36 year old man.
Family and friends will be received at the Logan Funeral Home, 371 Dundas St. (between Waterloo & Colborne St.), London on Thursday, August 1, 2013 from 7-9 p.m. Celebration of Life service will be held in the Logan Chapel on Friday, August 2, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation to follow. Memorial service under the auspices of Forest City Lodge #38 I.O.O.F. will be held Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m.
Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Jim are asked to consider the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario or the animal rescue organization, K9resQ.
