Obituary of Susan Elly Pillsworth

At Caressant Care on Mary Bucke Street, St. Thomas, on Sunday, September 10, 2023,  Susan Elly Pillsworth (nee Wieland) passed peacefully in her 100th year. Beloved wife of Bill Pillsworth (deceased).  Loving mother of Paul (Kathy) and Nancy Maunu (Gary). Dear Nana of Emma (Lindsay), Chris (Kelly), Lisa (Benson) and Steven.  Special Great Nana of Reece, Parker, Macarthur, Sullivan (Maunu) and Della, Samantha (Howey).  Best sister of Margaret Wieland (deceased). Survived by two nephews, Bob and John Guthrie and their families.

Susan, age 5, bravely travelled with her mother, Elly, and younger sister, Margaret, to Canada from Germany in 1928.  Father, Paul, was already in London working for the Hole-Proof Hosiery company whose machinery ironically had instruments and instructions only written in German. Susan was a strong student in school and never shied from hard work. She married Bill in 1948 and they soon started a family. Susan was a devoted wife, tireless mother, superb chef, talented seamstress and avid gardener. She loved to sing and was a long-time member of the choir and womens' group at Trinity Lutheran Church. Susan was a strong believer in family, community service, physical activity, and God. She will be sorely missed by everyone who was fortunate to have known her.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Mary Bucke who lovingly cared for Susan during her 4 year stay at the nursing home.

The funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 746 Colborne St., London, on Sunday, September 17th, 2023, 2:00 pm.
