We have lost a truly wonderful friend. I recollect our times on the doubles court and Max's sly and deadly sidewall boast with which he regularly got me, 30 years his junior. His role as MC at squash club events and the jokes he told were not to be missed and are part of squash club lore. Max - I will miss you!

Our thoughts are with you at this very sad time. Ruth, I remember fondly, visiting your Dad, in Tillsonburg, at his store and I thought he was so much fun and so welcoming! I also remember how much he adored you! A wonderful man, with an amazing family! My love goes out to you all and I am truly sorry for your loss.

Betty: We have been out of town and just read the news of Max's passing this evening. We are so sorry to have missed the opportunity to celebrate Max's life. You must know that you and Max had such a huge influence on us - you both helped to make us feel part of the neighbourhood. Your home was the "safe house" for our children if we were late home or they were locked out. Erin loved to watch your big TV! Max was Max. Straightforward, honest and a real friend to us - and Ted loved helping Max (not the most handy) to figure out why some appliance was not working. We miss him as we are sure your family does. Lots of love, Teresa, Ted, Patrick and Erin

We extend our sincere and deepest sympathy on the passing of Max. He was a kind and gentle soul that kept us all in good spirits with his outstanding sense of humour. It is no mean coincidence that he died the same week as Syd Caesar. As well we honour him for the outstanding service he gave to our community, and he will be sorely missed.

Dear Betty, I have been fortunate to share many of Max's favorite moments through his enjoyment for squash and joke telling. We also shared a few visits to events like this one where today unfortunately is for him. I spoke with him only the past week and he told me to first call ahead to go and see him, now I wont be able to accomplish that . Max was very giving with his thoughts and I will keep with honor the Xmass cards where he expressed his thanks to me for filing in and playing as his partner .Sincerely , my heart warm feelings. Fio.

Dearest Betty, it is with broken hearts and tears that we learned of the passing of our beloved friend Max. You and Max have been with us since we first came to London so many years ago. What can we say that will not be said by many people and probably a lot better then we can ever hope to do. But, we can say this from the bottom of our hearts. You and Max trusted us like no one else. If not for the two of you, Fran and I would not be where we are today. We can never thank you enough and we can never forget. Throughout the years, we shared laughs, tears, trips and so many discussions. They will always be a part of our memories. How can we forget when Max and I would sit around and make fun of you. That perhaps was the most fun of all. All of us were not religious, to say the least, but you did one better, you and Max built monuments to life. To us, he will always be alive and in our memories. Max has returned to the universe from which he came. He was a life force that touched everyone he knew. Love Fran and Lorence

It was a pleasure getting to know Max at London Squash. In my families early years of squash (late 90's) Max regularly joined my brothers, father and I on the doubles court for Sunday moring matches. He had great patience...and a wonderful sense of humour.
