I first met Terry not long after commissioning when I was a student on a staff course where he was a member of the staff. He was a well prepared and excellent instructor from whom I learned much about the army. I was later invited back as an instructor where I became the junior instructor and I again was able to learn from Terry except in a more nuanced and relaxed manner. From his joining the army as a Private Soldier, his experiences as an NCO, and as an officer proudly serving his Country and Regiment.
Terry as I compose this I am questioning if I am properly applying your lessons (and helpful red ink on my assignments). The army was poorer after your retirement, but richer for you having served in it. From a once young infantry subaltern who needed some polishing, thank you for the care in mentoring those of us who enrolled after you. From a former student, and later friend my sincerest gratitude will endure. Captain Gordon Douglas.

My Uncle Terry shared many of my childhood memories of me at my Mom’s funeral. Stories, that I did not know as I was so young. He always made everyone feel important and welcomed. The stories of my being a young child lifting the urns at the gravesite of my grandparents to see if I could see them or call them :). My sister and I visiting him and my Aunt Bridgette for a few days in London and him taking us to the army base. He will be fondly remembered ❤️
My heart goes out to all our family especially his children and brothers and sister.
Rest Easy Terry

My sincere condolences to the Burke family. I had the privilege of serving with your Dad in Germany between 1979-81. He was a platoon warrant officer in the company I was commanding at the time. I had never met your father prior to serving with him but he struck me as caring senior NCO who always had the best interests of his men at heart. He was a seasoned, mature leader and I was always reassured because of his leadership that platoon could handle a task given. He was a great developer of officers and men alike. Although we never served together again over our long careers I still have fond and lasting memories of our short time serving together. Here it is now over 40 years later and I still have endearing thoughts of your father. I guess one can't have a better legacy than that. Also, when I first met your father there was something about him that I couldn't quite identify or put my finger on. It was as if he had some latent talent that seemed to be just below his professional Senior NCO exterior. His accomplishments in later life proved that. Rest in peace Terry you have served your Regiment and country well. Bruce Archibald BGen(retd).

I first meet Terry when I was Chief Standards Officer for Land Forces Central Area and posted to Meaford. Terry was an outstanding individual who had an active interest in training and helping soldiers. He commanded the London Standards Detachment and set the gold standard for all. He filled in for me as Chief Standards Officer when I deployed to Bosnia Sep 2003 to April 2004.
I have his books. Terry was a great friend, excellent soldier and accomplished writer.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them.
