The 32nd Annual George Furtney Memorial Forest Dedication Service
was held on Sunday September 29, 2024.We were honoured to welcome 300 family members who gathered to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones. The forest setting, with sunlight streaming through the trees, provided a peaceful and reflective atmosphere.
A program of readings and musical selections, and a bagpiper escort accompanied the heartfelt words of remembrance of Rev. Keith McKee who offered comfort and inspiration, while honouring his own mother who passed away last year. A tree grows in her memory in the Furtney forest - a tribute, like the others, that will stand for generations.
These trees represent not only lives we’ve lost, but also hope and growth for the future, creating a lasting legacy.
We are grateful to The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority who manage the tree plantings and maintain Fanshawe Park and Conservation Area, providing the perfect setting for our service. The natural landscape along the shores of Fanshawe Lake create a feeling of serenity that suits the spirit of the day.
Following the service all those in attendance were invited to join in planting a tree, each able to place a bit of soil in memory of their loved one. The day, as always, was filled with grace, warmth and a shared sense of community.
We are truly grateful to all who attend these services and to everyone who makes it possible by allowing us to honour their loved ones in this manner. We are proud of this program and the nearly 10,000 trees that make up this incredible living memorial that will sustain their memories and enrich our community for generations to come.
Thank you for your support.
